The 2024 MLB season is in the home stretch, so be sure to check in on this page for our MLB Power Rankings.

These rankings will emphasize current performance while accounting for projections for the rest of the season.

You can think of them as a hierarchy of each team in MLB at this stage of the year, but remember — it’s not just going to be an order of each team’s record — that’s what standings are for.

So without further ado, let’s get right into our 2024 MLB Power Rankings.

MLB Odds are current as of August 19 from DraftKings Sportsbook.

MLB Power Rankings: Moving Up

San Diego Padres (+7)

The Padres have gone 20-6 since my last MLB power rankings update, which is the best record in baseball during this stretch.

This team significantly bolstered its bullpen at the trade deadline, acquiring Jason Adam and Tanner Scott.

Now only three games back of the Dodgers for the NL West lead, it’s time to start considering the Padres as World Series contenders, especially with that nasty bullpen.

Arizona Diamondbacks (+5)

The Diamondbacks are another NL West team that has caught fire, going 20-8 since the last update, which is why they’re much higher in my MLB power rankings today.

Arizona is proving that their World Series appearance from last year was not a fluke.

It’s great that Corbin Carroll has rediscovered his power stroke just in time for the stretch run.

San Francisco Giants (+4)

The Giants are quietly playing some solid baseball, going 16-13 since my July update.

While Robbie Ray got rocked in his last outing, his return is a boost for this rotation.

Tyler Fitzgerald has been a revelation, performing as one of the best hitters in MLB of late.

MLB Power Rankings: Moving Down

Texas Rangers (-6)

The Rangers have gone 11-18 in the last month, which makes you wonder why they didn’t sell at the deadline.

It’s a lost season for the defending World Series champions, who now find themselves 12.5 games back of the final AL Wild Card spot.

Texas would be a good bet for a bounce-back next year with Wyatt Langford developing and the rotation getting healthy.

Pittsburgh Pirates (-6)

The Pirates are on the right track with generational ace Paul Skenes, but they’ve gone 10-17 since the last update, highlighted by a 10-game losing streak.

With Skenes getting limited in the last stretch of the year, this team will just play out the rest of the season.

But look out for 2025, especially with a full year from Skenes.

St. Louis Cardinals (-6)

The Cardinals have gone 11-17 since my last update, establishing themselves as the definition of mediocrity.

This is an older team with only a bit of young talent, especially in the starting rotation.

St. Louis missed an opportunity in avoiding to sell at this year’s trade deadline.
