MNF Predictions Week 2 | Falcons vs Eagles

Last Updated: Sep 10, 2024

We’ll be treated to a battle of the birds in this Week 2’s featured Monday Night Football matchup. The Atlanta Falcons (0-1) will take on the Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) on Monday, Sept. 16, at 8:15 p.m. ET.

Atlanta fell in its first game with QB Kirk Cousins, putting up just 10 points against a staunch Steelers defense. Philadelphia, led by RB Saquon Barkley’s three touchdowns, held on to defeat Green Bay in Brazil, 34-29.

The Eagles appear to be in position to improve to 2-0, but could the Falcons play spoiler? Here are the latest Week 2 Monday Night Football odds, plus my best bets and predictions for Falcons vs Eagles.

Updated MNF Odds Comparison

Philadelphia opened as a considerable 6.5-point favorite over Atlanta, which isn’t too surprising. The Eagles looked much more capable than the Falcons in their Week 1 victory, and it’s fair to say that Jalen Hurts and co. have a higher ceiling.

We’re looking at an Over/Under of 47 points, which is the fifth-highest among all Week 2 games. The expectation is that Philadelphia’s offense will continue to roll, while Atlanta should benefit from taking on a weaker defense.

MNF Implied Score & Team Totals

Eagles 26.75, Falcons 20.25

The Eagles posted 34 points in Week 1, which was the third-highest total scored by a single team. They’re projected to finish close to 27 against the Falcons in Week 2.

Oddsmakers are expecting a bounce-back effort from Cousins and Atlanta based on this implied score of 20.25 points. This group has the personnel to win games with their offense, but it could take some time for everything to come together.

Sportsbook Play of the Day

Monday Night Football Prediction

MNF Score Prediction: Eagles 31, Falcons 20

The Falcons had their moments in Week 1, but for the most part, it wasn’t pretty. Cousins didn’t look like himself in his first game with Atlanta — which was also his first action post-Achilles tear — and despite producing the only touchdown of the day, they were upset at home.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, it won’t get any easier on Monday. Philadelphia’s offense hummed right along with former Giants RB Saquon Barkley, who was responsible for three of the team’s four touchdowns. The Steelers didn’t have any trouble establishing the run against Atlanta, and the Eagles shouldn’t either.

I do think we’ll see a more cohesive performance from this Falcons offense — Philly couldn’t stop anybody last season, and it gave up 29 points in Week 1 — but the Eagles should build enough separation in the second half en route to a comfortable victory.

It isn’t time to sound the alarm just yet on Cousins, but if things don’t go well this week, we could see rookie QB Michael Penix Jr. under center sooner than we expected.

Monday Night Football Bet Tips

Consider these bet tips and trends before making your Falcons vs Eagles bets.

  • The Eagles went 7-8-2 against the spread during the regular season in 2023.
  • Kirk Cousins has gone 3-10 throughout his career on Monday Night Football, winning three of his last four.
  • Overs were 7-1 in Eagles home games last year.

Monday Night Football Best Bets

MNF Over/Under Pick: Falcons @ Eagles Over 47 Points (-108)

It feels like the Falcons have a little ways to go before they’re consistently putting up decent scoring totals, but I still expect to see some improvement in Week 2. Something in the ballpark of 20 points should be within reason.

That means the Eagles would need to score close to 30 points for this one to hit the Over, but based on what we saw from their season-opening win over the Packers, I’m confident they can get the job done. Barkley is thriving in Philadelphia, and Hurts still has plenty of other weapons at his disposal.

Don’t let the high total scare you off. The Over is one of my best football bets today.

MNF Pick Against the Spread: Eagles -6.5 (-115) vs Falcons

The Falcons will be worth fading until they get their act together. This team doesn’t look great on either side of the ball, and even with some progress in Week 2, they’re likely to fall short of covering as 6.5-point underdogs in Philadelphia.

The Eagles fizzled out down the stretch last season, but the offense looked sharp in Week 1. Look for them to stay hot and win this one by at least a touchdown.

Monday Night Football Prop Bet

Both Teams Score 20+ Points: Yes (+115)

Excluding the playoffs, the Eagles scored 20-plus points in all but five games this past season. Philadelphia’s offense has improved since then, so notching at least 20 against Atlanta shouldn’t be an issue.

The Falcons were among the NFL’s worst offensive teams in 2023, but they, too, have gotten better, even if their Week 1 result indicated otherwise. Atlanta won’t do enough to win this game, but it should have an easier time putting points on the board.

Monday Night Football Same-Game Parlay

Best MNF Parlay (+395)

  • Eagles -6.5 (-115)
  • Falcons: Over 16.5 Points (-198)
  • Eagles: Over 3.5 Touchdowns (+140)

My best Monday Night Football parlay begins with the Eagles covering as 6.5-point favorites. These teams are on entirely different levels right now, and Philadelphia was an impressive 6-2 straight up at home in 2023.

I also like the Falcons to score at least 17 points. Atlanta made plenty of mistakes in Week 1, but Pittsburgh’s defense is one of the best at forcing turnovers and pressuring quarterbacks. The Eagles aren’t likely to have the same level of success.

The Falcons didn’t allow a single touchdown in Week 1, but that’ll change against Philadelphia. The Eagles scored four of them against the Packers, and they have the talent to pull off a repeat performance in their home opener.
